You get player accounts, per-player data security, a full skill-rating (SR) engine, backups, ... Not just for Unity. ... Godot, Unreal or any other engine or language can use the same server.

One-click generation: a Node.js + SQLite backend folder, a matching Unity C# client (<YourProject>Client.cs) and a JavaScript/TypeScript client. The generator window is organised in tabs (Basics, Players & Security, Ranking, Advanced). Settings are saved to backend-config.json and can be loaded again; Generate warns you if the folder's settings differ from the window. Secrets are written to .env only.
Database: SQLite (better-sqlite3) in WAL mode, so many players can write at the same time safely.
Smart indexing: chosen fields are indexed, so rankings, "around me" lookups and name searches stay fast with hundreds of thousands of players.
Nested JSON data routes: GET, PUT, PATCH and DELETE nested JSON on any route you define (for example /api/users/Alice/profile).
Identity engine: gamertags linked to Hardware ID, Steam ID64, Epic Account ID, PlayFab ID or a custom identifier. Players can rename (friend lists, requests and direct messages follow the new name) and move their profile to a new device with a one-time code. PC names are stored as SHA-256 hashes.
Player sign-in and access rules: session tokens plus access-rules.json with off, report and enforce modes. Starter rules are generated for every write route, unprotected routes are flagged, and one command tests whether a given request would be allowed.
3-Tier Match Harvester:
Accepts native Unity payloads, generic JSON webhooks, or legacy cross-engine simulation logs.
Match types: 1v1, teams or free-for-all per game mode, or auto-detected from each upload. Team and free-for-all matches take 2 to 200 players. Team results come from the winning team, team scores or player scores; free-for-all results from finishing place or score. Optional capped performance bonus. Bots are skipped without cancelling the match. Kills, deaths, assists and best kill streak are stored per mode, with overall totals.
SR engine: ready-made styles or custom settings, including tier boundaries, placement matches, win-streak bonuses, margin bonuses (points or rounds), draws per game mode, repeat-opponent reductions, leaver penalty, Tier 1 rank-floor protection or a hardcore mode, optional hidden MMR, and practice matches that never count. Also includes per-player SR history, a staff summary (inflation, tier spread) and a history recalculation with a preview.
Live server updates: Create Update Package makes a folder with an updater and step-by-step instructions. On the server you double-click it: it shows what will change, copies only changed program files, never touches the database or your keys, asks before using new settings, backs up everything it replaces, restarts with PM2 and rolls back automatically if the server doesn't come up. Any update can be undone with one double-click.
Any engine or language: a JavaScript/TypeScript client for browsers, Node.js, Capacitor and Electron, plus an OpenAPI 3 description at /api/openapi.json for Postman, Swagger UI or client generators.
Player data rights: "download my data" and "delete my account" for players, plus admin export and delete, to help with GDPR and CCPA requests.
Security: path-traversal protection, payload limits, admin and moderator roles with expiring sessions, sign-in rate limits, and minimum client version enforcement (older builds get "Upgrade Required" but can still find the update).
Automatic backups: every 6 hours by default, keeping the newest 28 (both configurable). One-command restore.
Verify My Backend: about 35 security and health checks against your live server in seconds.
Game server keys: your dedicated servers get only the permissions they need instead of the admin password.
Extensible: drop-in JavaScript plugins (routes, write checks, access rules), optional scheduled jobs, a Discord webhook and an optional UDP keep-alive ping.
Load test: simulated players report requests per second and response times, then clean up after themselves.
Unity client: SignIn with automatic re-sign-in, data read and write methods, UploadMatch with a MatchReport helper for team and free-for-all matches, GetSrHistory, identity, rename and profile-transfer methods, data-rights methods, and maintenance and session-expired events. It works in WebGL and IL2CPP builds.
Demo scene: builds its own UI at runtime (no TextMeshPro, works with either Input System). You sign in, play 1v1, team and free-for-all test matches with real SR changes, and see a leaderboard, a chat and an access-rules check. No passwords are stored in the scene.
Measured performance: with SQLite on one CPU core and 100,000 players stored, it handled about 980 requests per second, with 95% answered within 36 ms. A 200-player match is scored in well under a second.
Requirements: Unity 2022.3 LTS or newer; Node.js 20 or newer on the machine that runs the server.
Stop paying per player and stop writing server code. Universal Backend Generator is a Unity Editor tool that builds two matching pieces with one click: a ready-to-deploy Node.js + SQLite server, and a Unity C# client for talking to it. You get player accounts, per-player data security, a full skill-rating (SR) engine, backups, a security self-test and a load test without writing a line of backend code.
You own everything. The server is plain JavaScript in a folder next to your project, so you can run it on your own PC, a cheap VPS or any cloud host. There are no per-player or per-request fees and no vendor lock-in. Updating a live server is just as simple: Create Update Package makes a folder with an updater and step-by-step instructions. You copy it to the server and double-click. It backs up, updates, restarts and checks your server, and puts everything back by itself if the server doesn't come up.
Not just for Unity. Every backend also comes with a JavaScript/TypeScript client for web games, websites and apps, plus an OpenAPI description of every endpoint. Godot, Unreal or any other engine or language can use the same server.
Secure from day one. Players sign in and get a session. An access-rules file decides what each player may read and write: only you can change your own profile, and only the people in a conversation can post in it. A report mode lets you see what would be refused before you switch enforcement on. Verify My Backend checks your live server's security in seconds and tells you exactly what to fix.
Built for competitive games. Match results go into a configurable SR engine that ranks 1v1 duels, team matches (5v5, squads) and free-for-all lobbies of up to 200 players, such as a battle royale. Choose the match type per game mode. In team matches each player is rated against the other team's average SR, so carrying a weaker team earns more. In a free-for-all, SR follows the finishing place. Pick a ready-made style (Competitive, Community, Hardcore or Classic), or fine-tune it yourself:
tier boundaries and placement matches
win-streak bonuses and margin-of-victory bonuses
draws per game mode
reduced gains against repeat opponents
leaver penalties and rank-floor protection
an optional performance bonus for top scorers in team and free-for-all matches
kills, deaths, assists and kill streaks saved as stats, which never change SR on their own, so players can't farm kills to rank up
Every SR change is kept in a per-player history. A preview shows what a formula change would do before you apply it.
Try it in minutes. Click Generate & Boot Local Server, open the included demo scene and press Play. Sign in, play 1v1, team and free-for-all test matches and watch the server's real SR changes, see the leaderboard and chat, and watch the access rules refuse a player editing someone else's profile. A full user manual is included.
Works with Unity 2022 LTS and Unity 6, on Windows, macOS, Linux. Suitable for any online genre: competitive shooters, battle royales, party games, co-op, mobile and PC games, VR, and community revival projects.
Built to grow. The generator is designed to be extended. Drop-in JavaScript plugins and the same generator window will take you from a first test server to a large online game.
