Package type: Editor tool + runtime library (procedural 2D pixel-art character generator). No pre-made sprite sheets: all character art is generated by C# code in the Editor or at runtime.
Generated images
- Frame size: 112×80 px by default (a 32×32 style canvas plus padding for animations; the style canvas can be set from 16 to 128 px)
- Characters are about 16–25 px tall; the sprite pivot is at the feet; 16 pixels per unit by default
- Color depth: 32-bit RGBA (Texture2D RGBA32, point filtering, no mipmaps)
- Transparency: binary alpha (fully transparent background); partial alpha only on ghost/spirit characters and the Phase animation
- Export: PNG (integer scale 1–16×), editable prefabs, baked animated prefabs, JSON presets
Content
- 40 roles in 7 groups: Law and outlaws, the Range, Town, Settlers, Union army, Confederate army, Native nations. Unlimited variations from seeds
- 8 race families (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, Undead, Aquatic); any race can take any role

Architecture
- Pure C# engine (no UnityEngine dependency) and thin Unity components (PixelCharacterView, PixelCharacterAnimator)
- Editor window, inspectors, prefab exporter
- Separate assembly definitions: Runtime, Editor, Samples, Tests
- Main API: WildWestLibrary.Generate, CharacterAnimationRenderer.RenderFrame, PixelCharacterView.SetRole / SetFaction / SetWear / SetHolstered / SetFrontier / SetEquipment, plus animation events (ShotFired, AttackMoment, AnimationCompleted)
- Characters are serialized as JSON-compatible data (CharacterDefinition)
Dependencies: None required. Optional: URP + Shader Graph for the included lit sprite shader; Unity Test Framework for the included EditMode tests.
Platforms: All Unity platforms (managed C# only, no native plugins). On WebGL, generation runs on the main thread; on other platforms the demo uses worker threads.
Limitations: Animations are visual poses only; movement, projectiles, collision and damage are handled by your game. Effects (muzzle flash, black-powder smoke) are drawn into the sprite frames, not particle systems. No animals or vehicles.
Unity version: 2022.3 or newer
2D Infinite Character Forge - Wild West Edition creates animated pixel characters for Western, frontier and American Civil War games. Generate as many characters as you need, edit every detail, and export them as sprites or prefabs. No online service is used, and the full C# source is included.
Ready-made characters for the Wild West
Pick from 40 roles and click Generate. Every seed gives a new person in the role’s clothes and gear:
- Law and outlaws: sheriffs, deputies, marshals, bounty hunters, gunslingers, outlaws and masked bandits
- The range: cowboys, vaqueros, ranchers, trappers, prospectors and scouts
- Town: saloon keepers, gamblers, doctors, preachers, blacksmiths, shopkeepers and schoolteachers
- Settlers: homesteaders, railroad workers and stagecoach drivers
- Civil War armies: Union and Confederate infantry, cavalry, artillery, officers, drummers and color bearers
- Native people: hunters, trackers, elders, healers and artisans, at everyday work and rest
Fully customizable
Every generated character is a starting point you can edit:
- body, face and hair
- outfit and colours
- weapon, item in the free hand, hat, belt, pack, neckwear, gloves and boots
- faction, army branch, rank insignia and badges
Any role can be re-coloured for another faction. Every item comes in six quality grades, from rusty homemade gear to engraved silver presentation pieces, and its condition can be set from as new to battered. Save characters as presets, change them at runtime from code, or add your own people presets.
Built for gunfights and frontier life
Ten period firearms are included: revolvers, a derringer, lever-action and buffalo rifles, a carbine, rifle-muskets with or without bayonet, and shotguns. Each shot shows a muzzle flash and black-powder smoke.
- Revolvers stay in the holster until a firing animation draws them.
- Muzzle-loaders are rammed when they reload; breech-loaders open their action.
- A ShotFired event fires once per shot, so you can spawn your own bullets and play sounds on the right frame.
34 animations per character
- Standard: Idle, Walk, Run, Jump, Hurt, Block, Die, Roll, Celebrate, attacks, Shoot and Reload
- Wild West: Draw (quick draw), Fan (rapid fire), Kneel Fire, March, Salute, Tip Hat, Throw (lasso, dynamite, tomahawk), Dig, Chop, Kneel (panning for gold), Sit and Play (drum or bugle)
Zombie and ghost layers are also included for Weird West and ghost-town games.
Suitable for
Western shooters, top-down and side-view RPGs, strategy and tactics games, Civil War battles, town and colony simulations, survival games and Weird West horror. The small 16 px-scale pixel style suits retro and mobile games.
