🎮 ADVANCED SIDE SCROLLER FOR GAME CREATOR 2
Everything your platformer needs, built straight into Game Creator 2. Drop in one Camera Shot and your Player is followed along a smooth 2.5D plane. Then layer on parallax backgrounds, room by room camera zones, level bounds, stop and resume gates, and doorways that travel between areas in the same scene.
🎥 A NATIVE 2.5D CAMERA SHOT
Pick “2.5D Side Scroller” from the GC2 Shot dropdown and you have a working platformer camera. It follows your character with an orthographic view, a dead zone, look ahead that leads the way you are moving, and independent horizontal and vertical smoothing. It locks to the player’s plane automatically, so it frames correctly even when the character is not sitting on zero.
🌄 PARALLAX THAT SELLS THE DEPTH
Add a Parallax Layer to each background and set how much it follows the camera, per axis. Push the sky back, let the foreground race by. Turn on seamless horizontal repeat and a layer tiles itself to fill the view as you scroll, reusing only the copies it needs.
🏙️ CAMERA ZONES FOR ROOM BY ROOM FRAMING
Drop a Camera Zone around an area and override only the settings you want inside it: offset, dead zone, look ahead, zoom or bounds. It blends in when the Player enters and blends back out when they leave. Overlapping zones resolve by priority.
📐 LEVEL BOUNDS AND FOLLOW GATES
Keep the camera off the void with a bounds rectangle that clamps the whole view inside your level. Or, for a scripted pause, use the Stop Follow and Resume Follow triggers to hold the camera in place and pick the Player back up further along. No rectangle required.
🚪 IN SCENE LEVEL PORTALS
Travel between two areas stacked in the same scene with no scene load. The portal fades out, teleports the Player with the GC2 driver, swaps the area roots, snaps the camera to the destination without panning across the gap, and fades back in. Great for doorways, elevators and hidden rooms.
🏃 OPTIONAL SIDE SCROLLER MOVEMENT AND AIMING
Switch the Player unit to 2.5D Side Scroller and the character moves only left and right along a world axis, reusing all of its existing GC2 input, motion, animation and jump. A Facing unit turns the character toward movement, the mouse pointer, or the current combat target, so it plays nicely with Shooter and Melee. An optional Movement Plane Lock keeps physics and knockback from pushing anyone off the plane.
🧠 VISUAL SCRIPTING
Change the target, bounds, zoom, look ahead, depth plane, and facing mode live from GC2 instructions.
