Fantasy Backgrounds #4 – Mutated Lands includes four hand-painted 2D battle backgrounds for turn-based RPGs, side-scrolling encounters and other fantasy games.

Something got loose, and it didn’t stay in one place.

The same infection has spread across barren plains, underground caves, dense jungle and frozen woodland. Use the backgrounds as separate battle locations, or connect them through a story about corruption spreading across your world.

This is the fourth set in the Fantasy Backgrounds series, and the first with four backgrounds instead of three.

PACK CONTENTS

Four themed backgrounds:

• Blighted Barrens - cracked earth beneath storm clouds, with glowing veins running through dead trees and roots.
• Spore Caverns - underground caves lit from below by bioluminescent growth.
• Tainted Jungle - dense canopy, hanging moss and red tendrils spreading through the vegetation.
• Frostbloom Forest - frozen woodland where pale blooms push up through the snow.

Each background has separate foreground, midground and distant background layers for parallax scrolling. All four are horizontally tileable, so you can repeat them across wider scenes.

The pack also includes 3 themed shaders created with Unity Shader Graph and full layered PSD source files for every scene.

BUILT FOR BATTLE SCENES

The center of each scene is kept open, giving your characters a clear place to stand and fight. Foreground silhouettes frame the edges rather than covering the action.

Use the layouts for turn-based RPG battles, arena fights, side-scrolling boss encounters or visual novels with combat.

CUSTOMIZATION

Use the layered PSD files to recolor the sky, remove objects or rearrange the foreground for your parallax setup. You can also reuse the infection elements in your own environments to carry the theme into other locations.

PSD: full layered source artwork for every background.
Shaders: 3 themed shaders, supplied in Unity Shader Graph format only.

Every scene is hand-painted. No generative AI was used to create the artwork.
