The Ark of the Covenant, or Ark of the Testimony, was built according to the pattern given to Moses over 3,000 years ago under the craftsmanship of Bezalel and Oholiab. Serving as God's earthly throne within the most holy place, the Ark preserved the two stone tablets of the testimony, the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded. Above it rested the mercy seat, overshadowed by two golden cherubim with stretched-out wings, where God communed with His people.
