Fractured - PS1 Psychological Horror Audio Pack

20 tracks built around a single motif: a detuned violin, processed through PS1 SPU hardware until it sits at the edge of what sounds intentional. The setting is an abandoned psychiatric hospital. The audio covers every space and every story beat within it.

The third pack in the Retro PSX Assets series, and the most structurally detailed. 10 narrative soundtracks for specific story moments and 10 area music loops for sustained exploration. All tracks processed through authentic PlayStation 1 SPU hardware emulation.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

SOUNDTRACKS (10 tracks, designed to play at specific story moments)

  • Admission: Arrival. One note, sustained, then silence.
  • The Intake Lobby: First area, first contact with the building.
  • What Remains: Discovery of what happened here.
  • The Mirror Room: The only track with any harmonic resolution, which makes it the most unsettling.
  • The Violin Room: The motif exposed. Everything hinted at before is here.
  • Footsteps Behind You: Pursuit. Dense. Unsteady. No clear pulse.
  • Restricted Area: The section that was locked for a reason.
  • The Record: Something was documented. You are reading it.
  • Lights Out: The building loses power.
  • What Remains: The ending. Resolved in a way that may not feel like relief.

MUSIC TRACKS (10 area loops, seamless BGM for exploration)

  • Night Rounds: Walking a corridor at 3am knowing something is behind you.
  • Padded Cell: Four walls and a low drone.
  • Treatment Ward: Clinical and cold.
  • Therapy Rooms: The chairs are still arranged in a circle.
  • Empty Halls: The reverb setting is Hall. The building earns it.
  • Dissociation: The one track with no clear beginning.
  • Intake Lobby Loop: The main hall during exploration sequences.
  • Electroshock: The most aggressive track in the pack.
  • Isolation: Minimal. One texture for a long time.
  • Release: The final loop. Leaves through an unlocked door.

PS1 SPU HARDWARE EMULATION

All 20 tracks were processed through a true PlayStation 1 SPU hardware emulator (Sound Processing Station VST by Ultima DSP).

  • PSX SPU Reverb: Hardware-accurate Room, Studio, and Hall reverb
  • ADPCM Bit Depth: 8-bit compression artifacts preserved, not cleaned
  • 22050 Hz Sample Rate: Authentic PlayStation 1 SPU standard
  • Gaussian Interpolation: PS1 native sample playback mode
  • Natural 8kHz Roll-Off: High-frequency ceiling matching original hardware

The violin content in this pack received an additional processing pass. ADPCM compression at 22050 Hz is particularly unkind to high-frequency string content, adding a physical quality to the detune that pitch-shifting alone cannot produce.
