Build destructible structures entirely inside Unity.
Destructible Structure Builder combines Scene-view construction tools with voxel-based damage, structural stress, dynamic collapse, debris physics, effects, and pooling.
Quickly create buildings, bridges, platforms, and simple props without repeatedly switching to an external modeling application. Build with modular members, surfaces, stairs, and slopes, then damage the resulting structures through collisions or a straightforward scripting API.
DSB is ideal for developers who prefer a Unity-native workflow, whether they want to avoid traditional modeling tools or simply iterate faster inside Unity.
DSB is designed for modular structures created with its included tools.
Important Scope Information: All construction happens inside the Unity Editor. DSB does not support runtime or player-driven building, nor does it fracture arbitrary imported meshes or replace a full modeling application for complex assets.
Features
1. In-Editor Structure Building
Create and configure destructible structures directly in the Scene view:
- Grid-aligned and free-angle structural members
- Walls, floors, and other configurable surfaces
- Stairs and slopes
- Scene-view snapping and placement previews
- Manual or automatic support/ground detection
- Material, damage, and structural-strength settings
- Tools for copying dimensions, materials, and surface designs
- Full editor undo/redo support
2. Voxel-Based Damage
Generated structures are divided into damageable voxels. Apply damage through collisions or DSB’s scripting API.
3. Structural Stress and Collapse
Optional graph-based stress simulation evaluates support paths and structural load. Unsupported or overloaded sections can split, detach, and collapse dynamically.
Grounded supports can be placed manually or detected automatically from configured ground layers.
4. Profile-Driven Effects
Configure reusable particle and audio profiles for:
- Piece crumbling
- Structural stress
- Large collapses
- Window shattering
- Debris impacts
Optional material-specific profiles allow different materials to produce different destruction feedback.
5. Performance-Focused Runtime
DSB includes systems intended to help manage the cost of active destruction:
- Debris object pooling
- Mesh combining and chunking
- Scheduled processing
- Configurable debris limits and lifetimes
- Separate small-debris, large-debris, and detached-group behavior
- Adjustable collision-damage queries
Performance still depends on structure complexity, voxel density, active debris, physics settings, and target hardware.
6. Optional Navigation Support
When Unity’s AI Navigation package is installed, DSB can rebake a structure’s NavMesh after destructive events change the surrounding walkable geometry.
What’s Included
- Full, unencrypted C# source code
- Editor structure-building tools
- Runtime destruction and stress systems
- Reusable and easily modifiable audio and particle-effect profiles
- Sample materials, audio, particles, and textures
- Example scene with prebuilt destructible structures
- Complete documentation and quick-start guide
Known Limitations
- Intended for simple modular and framed structures
- Editor-only authoring; no in-game building system
- No built-in multiplayer or networking integration
- Requires uniform structure scaling
- Geometry-changing tools cannot edit prefab assets, Prefab Mode contents, or connected prefab instances. Unpack an instance before editing, then save it back to a prefab intentionally.
Included sample materials target the Built-in Render Pipeline. URP and HDRP projects may need to convert them using Unity’s material-upgrade tools.
Unity’s Input System package (com.unity.inputsystem) is required only for the included demo controls.
Unity’s AI Navigation package (com.unity.ai.navigation) is required only for optional NavMesh rebaking.
