Unity “Fur & Hair Tool” (FAHT) is a powerful but simple Unity tool to help 3D character modellers add hair & fur to their characters in Unity. The combination of Meshes, brushes & textures allows the artists to speed up & focus on being his/her creative best. The tool has simple, intuitive features & most importantly, is & looks 3D. The tool is designed to give 3D artists a higher level of control when working with human & animal characters hair.
Prerequisites:
Editor Coroutines:
Add the package to the project from ‘Package Manager’ under ‘Window’ menu. For more instructions,visit Editor Coroutines.
Key Features & Highlights of the Tool
1: Supports Rigged/Animated meshes.
2: Automate texture placement at the click of a button is a key highlight of the tool.
3: Support for multiple materials of the fur mesh, which enables complex fur appearance.
4: Special Shader is provided, to customize the appearance of the fur.
5: Two types of Fur Mesh generation: (Please refer page 3 of the Documentation)
a: Generated Mesh - Generate mesh from Quads.
b: Custom Mesh - Import Custom fur Mesh from any 3D package to place it as fur on Base mesh.
6: Brushes: (Please refer page 4 of the Documentation)
a: Fur Brush: Place/Paint fur on Base Mesh in Scene window.
b: Comb Brush: Emulates a Comb to direct the fur flow.
c: Twist Brush: Modifies the orientation of fur about surface normals.
d: Erase Brush: Removes fur.
e: Scale Brush: Modifies fur size.
f: Raise/Lower Brush: Lifts or sinks the fur from/towards the surface of base mesh.
g: Selection Brush: Allows selecting fur in specific region, that can be then be modified using above brushes.
7: Texture Map: (Please refer page 6 of the Documentation) The texture map feature can be used to automate fur/hair generation. Instead of using brushes to create Fur/Hair, get even distribution of fur/hair over the entire model with a click of a button. Two UV mapped textures are provided to control the properties of fur:
a: Scale texture: Controls the scale of fur.
b: Density texture:Controls the amount/density of fur.
Limitations:
Final mesh should have a maximum vertex count of 64k.
