Free 3D pathfinding for agents that fly, swim or float. Nav 3D Lite turns your scene's meshes and terrains into a navigable volume and flies agents through it along smoothed routes.

Pathfinding

✅ A* over an adaptive octree of the whole scene volume, with path smoothing.
✅ Searches run on worker threads; callbacks return on the main thread.

Obstacles

✅ Meshes and terrains become obstacles through a Nav3DObstacleRuntime component, read in once when Nav 3D initializes.

Agents

✅ Nav3DAgent with MoveTo, MoveToPoints and FollowTarget, re-finding its path automatically.
✅ Tuned through Nav3DAgentConfig assets in the inspector.

Tools

✅ Nav3DPath for path queries from your own code.
✅ Play-mode drawers for the octree and agent paths.

Package

✅ Full C# source code.
✅ Two included demo scenes: Skyline and PathFollowing.
✅ PDF user manual.
✅ Unity 2022.3.62f1 or newer.
✅ Windows, macOS, Android, iOS.
✅ Navigation code has no third-party dependencies.
✅ The demo scenes use Unity UI (com.unity.ugui).
⚠️ WebGL is not supported.

Agents route through the whole volume of your scene — open sky, corridors, caves, the inside of a station — along smoothed flight lines, with one component and one call.

Nav 3D Lite is the free edition of Nav 3D. It reads the scene you already have — meshes and terrains — into an adaptive octree when it initializes, runs A* through the free space, and moves agents along the result. There is no navigation surface to bake and no waypoint network to place by hand: the geometry is the navigation data.

SUITABLE FOR

Anything that moves through space rather than across a floor: birds and flying creatures, fish and underwater life, drones, aircraft, spaceships, submarines. It fits flight and space games, underwater worlds, drone and aerial sims, tower defense with air units and zero-g levels — any genre where “walkable surface” simply doesn’t apply, which is exactly where a navigation mesh stops. Lite is at its best in prototypes and in levels whose geometry is set when the scene loads.

MADE TO BE CUSTOMIZED

Nav 3D Lite ships as full C# source code, so nothing in it is a black box you have to work around. Agents are tuned through Nav3DAgentConfig assets — speed, radius, path smoothing, re-pathing, timeouts — edited in the inspector and shared by every agent that references them. The world is tuned the same way, through a Nav3DWorldSettings asset. Routes are yours to use as well: Nav3DPath answers path queries for your own code, so the same search can drive a missile, a camera rail or an AI decision instead of an agent. Import the supplied .unitypackage into Assets/Nav3D. Skyline and PathFollowing are included under Assets/Nav3D/Demo. Both demo scenes are authored in the editor, so opening one shows how a scene is put together before you press Play.

WHEN THE PROJECT GROWS

Nav 3D Pro uses the same components, the same calls and the same project structure, so a project started on Lite moves to Pro without a rewrite. Pro adds a world that changes during play, ORCA local avoidance between agents, pathfinding sized to each agent's radius, eased, accelerated and banked flight motion, resolution regions, pre-baked obstacles, evader and sphere-shell entities, a demo suite of eleven scenes and AI Skills for coding assistants.
