You can easly create 2D ropes using a custom editor window. (rope: a chain of circle colliders and Unity physics 2D joints)
You can set the mass, gravity scale, layer, the endings, prefab for the ropes.
This package contains a test scene and support scripts for cutting or dragging the ropes.
Limitations: The Physics 2D joints can't hold to many rope segments together.
