Features:

  • organize the editor state in profiles

  • execution of user scripts before and/or after changing the current profile

Unity Version - Support:

  • 6000.3 (minimal) or later
  • 6000.5 or later for the Hierarchy View Expanded State

Dependencies

  • Unity Test Framework (com.unity.test-framework)

Unity Version - Support

  • 6000.3 (minimal) or later
  • 6000.5 or later for the Hierarchy View Expanded State

WorkspaceManager is an editor tool aiming for productivity, especially when:

  • working and switching between multiple scenes
  • constantly adjusting the scene viewer (camera position, grid, etc.)
  • creating quick setups for tests and tweaking, like closing all scenes and opening a single one for temporary use

All those changes of context are easily stored and restored through Profiles. Each profile has:

  • a list of scenes and their state: is active?, is subscene? is loaded?
  • scene viewer state (camera angle and settings, grid setup, etc.)
  • last selected object
  • from Unity 6000.5 onward the hierarchy view expanded state is also stored

A profile is created through a custom window, which can be accessed by a dropdown button in the main toolbar, or by shortcut. Through this window the user can also: change the active profile, protect profiles (disable auto-save), delete profiles, and easily open a scene as a temporary profile (reserved Quick Profile). Another window can also be opened to further edit the tool settings.

By changing the active profile, the manager will close the current scenes and open the ones from the target profile, restoring the scene viewer state, and last selection. The user can also use custom attributes to assign static methods for execution just before and/or after a new profile is opened for use.

Notes and Limitations

  • runs in edit mode only
  • does not manage the scene viewer Visibility, Pick, and Gizmos individual states (global enable for gizmos is used)
