Retro PSX Stack – Shaders, Grade & Fog

The complete PS1 look for URP: low-res rendering, vertex snapping, affine texture warping, dithered palette grading, ground fog and light halos. Add it to your camera, no art rework needed.

Retro PSX Stack recreates the 90s console look as a full stack rather than a single shader, because the look is not one effect. It is low render resolution, unstable geometry, warped textures and a limited palette all happening at once, and missing any one of them is why most attempts land somewhere between "modern game with a filter" and nothing at all.

Every layer is independent and every parameter is exposed. Use the whole stack for a period-accurate PS1 game, or take one piece on its own - just the fog, just the resolution controller - and the rest of your setup is untouched. Values that would mean editing a shader elsewhere are sliders here: snap grid size, affine warp amount, palette levels, dither strength, fog height, density and drift, and render height anywhere from 120p to native.

It suits retro horror above all, where a low resolution hides exactly what a flashlight should not reveal, but the same controls dial all the way down to a subtle grain for stylised shooters, PSX-flavoured racing, dream sequences, or a single flashback level inside an otherwise modern game.

It works with whatever art you already have. The grade, fog and resolution passes are full-screen and need no changes to your meshes or materials. The PSXLit shader is optional, for when you want vertex snapping and affine warping on specific objects rather than everywhere.

Includes a demo scene built entirely from primitives and procedural textures, a preconfigured URP Asset and Renderer so the effects are visible the moment you open it, an F9 live tuning panel, and full documentation with recommended values. No third-party content and no external dependencies.
